Seminars, Conferences and Grant Opportunities

Each year a portion of the
net proceeds from the Children’s Miracle Network fundraising at Duke Children’s
is allocated to the Kids Care Fund. This fund awards Kids Care Grants to support patient/family needs, child
advocacy programs, entertainment and educational activities directed at the
patients and families receiving care at Duke Children’s.

The Department of Pediatrics Research Retreat is scheduled for Saturday,
June 20, 2009 in the Schiciano Auditorium and Atrium of the Fitzpatrick Building
(Pratt School of Engineering) from 7:30a.m. to 2:00p.m. This annual event offers
the opportunity for Pediatric students, post-doctoral fellows, clinical
fellows, research assistants, research associates, research scientists, and
faculty members to engage in collaborative discussions as well as showcase
current scholarship and research.

On Tuesday, May 12th, please plan to attend sessions with invited
speaker, Kenneth B. Roberts, MD, Professor of Pediatrics and Director
of Pediatric Training at Moses Cone Hospital, UNC-Chapel Hill Hospitals.

Mario Capecchi, PhD, Distinguished Professor of Human Genetics and
Biology at the University of Utah, will be the guest speaker for the
2009 George Brumley, Jr. Memorial Lecture, Thursday, February 26 at
4:30pm in the Searle Center.

Register
online for this Duke Pediatric Neurology Update Course scheduled for
Saturday, February 21, 2009 from 8:30am to 6:00pm in the Searle Center.
The aim of this course is to enhance patient care by discussing recent
advances in common pediatric neurological disorders.

Each year a substantial portion of the net proceeds from the Children's
Miracle Network are allocated to the CMN Research Grant fund to support
clincial, basic or applied research projects within the Duke Children's
community.

This symposium, which will focus on Urgent Issues in Outpatient Pediatrics, is scheduled for November 1 and 2 in the Searle Center at duke University Medical Center.

The Anna's Angel Fund is again offering support for innovative research projects. Projects may be either basic or clinical and all members of the Duke community are eligible to apply.

Leonard I. Zon, MD, a Howard Hughes Investigator and a professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School will be visiting Duke at the end of February to present the Brumley Lectureship in Pediatrics.

This one day continuing medical education activity is designed to provide a targeted, concise but highly practical approach to the current problems in Pediatric Infectious Diseases.
