The Duke Pediatric Heart Program has grown significantly in recent years, with sizeable increases in the numbers of patients, diagnostic studies, and cardiac surgical procedures. To accommodate this growth, a new dedicated 13-bed pediatric cardiac intensive care unit was constructed on the fifth floor of Duke University Hospital and was opened in January 2009. In addition, a new pediatric echocardiography laboratory was opened on the first floor of the McGovern-Davison Children's Health Center in May 2009.
