Pediatric Research Retreat 2009

The Department of Pediatrics Research Retreat is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2009 in the Schiciano Auditorium and Atrium of the Fitzpatrick Building (Pratt School of Engineering) from 7:30a.m. to 2:00p.m. This annual event offers the opportunity for Pediatric students, post-doctoral fellows, clinical fellows, research assistants, research associates, research scientists, and faculty members to engage in collaborative discussions as well as showcase current scholarship and research.

 

Robert Cook-Deegan, MD, Director of the Center for Genome Ethics, Law, and Policy in the Institute for Genome Sciences and Policy, will present the keynote address, “Life in the Era of Full-Genome Sequencing.” Dr. Cook-Deegan became Director of the IGSP's Center for Genome Ethics, Law & Policy in July 2002. He was previously Director of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellowship program (2000-2002) at the Institute of Medicine (IOM), National Academy of Sciences, a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Investigator at Georgetown University (1999-2002), and a seminar leader at Stanford-in-Washington (1996-2003). He worked at The National Academies in various capacities from 1991 before coming to Duke.

Call for Abstracts: Everyone in the Department is invited to submit an abstract for a poster presentation, and a competition will be held for best poster.  The deadline for abstract submission is Friday, May 29, 2009.

 

This year's retreat is primarily being organized by Corinne Linardic, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Hematology-Oncology and Assistant Professor of Pharmacology & Cancer Biology. Additional details regarding the schedule will be posted here as they become available.
