Faculty Receive Recognition for Contributions to Academic Medicine

According to Joseph St. Geme, III, MD, Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, three faculty members recently received institutional recognition for their important contributions to Duke and to academic medicine:
Dr. Mike Freemark was honored at the Duke University Distinguished Professors Dinner and was named the Robert C. and Veronica Atkins Professor of Pediatrics in recognition of his accomplishments in defining the roles of fetal and placental hormones in the regulation of maternal metabolism and fetal growth and in addressing the physiology and treatment of childhood diabetes.
Dr. Mohamad Mikati was honored at the Duke University Distinguished Professors Dinner and was named the Wilburt C. Davison Professor of Pediatrics in recognition of his accomplishments as an international leader in the area of pediatric epilepsy and pediatric neurology in general, making fundamental discoveries regarding the neurobiology and the pharmacology of epilepsy.
Dr. Bill Steinbach received the Young Investigator Award from the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society in recognition of his laboratory and clinical research addressing the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of fungal infections, with an emphasis on aspergillosis.
