Healthy Lifestyles Program Expands to Raleigh
Due to an unprecedented number of families seeking care through the Healthy Lifestyles Program, a satellite clinic in Duke Children's Consultative Services of Raleigh at the Duke Medicine Plaza
(on the campus of Duke Raleigh Hospital) was opened on March 31, 2009. This new location will accommodate the increasing numbers of patients being referred to the program as well as offer a more convenient location for our eastern North Carolina families.
Three new providers have been recruited
to comprise the Healthy Lifestyles-Raleigh clinical team:
William Lawrence, Jr., MD, FAAP, is the former acting director of NC Medicaid and was instrumental in creating a
reimbursement package policy change within Medicaid for NC children. His interests include promoting healthy lifestyles, eliminating health disparities, and designing strategies for effective policies in primary care.
Kathleen Miller is an endocrine nurse practitioner, who previously directed a childhood obesity prevention program at Georgetown University. Her primary interest is in the prevention
of type 2 diabetes.
Dorothy Conrad is a
registered dietician with over 20 years clinical experience in treating
overweight and obese children and working with their families. She was formerly the lead dietician at the
Durham Health Department, and her main interest is in the reversal of unhealthy eating
habits through one-on-one education and environmental change.
