The Department of Pediatrics at Duke University
Medical Center
is seeking two faculty members to join our new Division of Pediatric Emergency
Medicine. Candidates should be board
eligible or board certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
Responsibilities will include patient care, education of pediatric
and emergency medicine residents and quality improvement. Research is encouraged but not required.
Protected time for research or other academic activities will be negotiated based
upon interest and prior productivity.
We are a new Division with ambitious clinical and academic goals.
This month we moved into a new, 18-bed, dedicated pediatric emergency
department located adjacent to the adult emergency department and the Duke Children’s
Health Center. We are a Level 1 Trauma Center.
The Department of Pediatrics at Duke has a long history of
excellence in patient care, graduate and undergraduate medical education, and
clinical, laboratory, and health services research. The Department of Pediatrics is in a period
of significant growth.

or mid-level faculty positions in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology,
Hepatology and Nutrition.
Eligible candidates must hold an MD or MD/PhD degree and be
board certified or board eligible in Gastroenterology by the American Board of
Pediatrics.
Both
clinician-educators and clinician-investigators are encouraged to apply. High priority will be placed on dedication to
excellence in teaching and clinical service, creativity in clinical or
laboratory research, and potential for independent funding. The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology,
Hepatology and Nutrition has a
long history of strong clinical service, excellence in teaching, and cutting
edge clinical and basic research programs.
Clinical support personnel include two full-time endoscopy
nurses, an endoscopy technician, three nurse clinicians, a nurse practitioner,
and a dedicated nutritionist, and clinical facilities include recently
renovated inpatient space and a state-of-the art ambulatory building with a
dedicated pediatric endoscopy suite. Clinical activities are
facilitated by excellent relationships with Adult Gastroenterology, Pediatric
Surgery, Pediatric Radiology, Pathology, and the full spectrum of pediatric
subspecialty expertise. The research
environment is robust, including the Duke Clinical Research Institute, the Duke
Translational Medicine Institute, and strong basic sciences.

Candidates should be experienced in clinical research with interest and experience in International Health and clinical trials. Candidates must be willing to live and work full-time at a clinical research site in Moshi, Tanzania.
The Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center (KCMC)-Duke collaboration in Moshi has a well established and efficient research site with state of the art laboratory and clinical trials research support, including expert faculty and research staff on-site. The hospital is in the foothills of Kilimanjaro where there are excellent medical facilities, and a safe and comfortable work environment. Multiple other research groups also work at KCMC and are available for collaboration. An International School is located in Moshi for children’s educational needs.
We seek a candidate who is enthusiastic, and is focused on clinical trials relating to prevention of mother to child HIV-transmission, treatment of HIV-infected children, and the investigation of other infectious diseases in children in Africa. The site is currently a member of the ACTG and IMPAACT networks. The ideal candidate will implement and oversee network trials and will develop their own research agenda.
Strengths of the site include excellent MD colleagues at KCMC plus a large number of collaborating physicians from Duke who visit on a regular basis; a state of the art laboratory facility; outstanding clinical resources for treatment of HIV-infected children and adults including a newly completed Child Centered Family Care Center; support from the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and PEPFAR; excellent pediatricians who are active and enthusiastic participants in research; and a pleasant and safe living environment. Other NIH-sponsored clinical studies at KCMC include International Studies in AIDS Associated Co-infections (ISAAC), Center for HIV AIDS Vaccine Immunology (CHAVI), and Center for AIDS Research (CFAR).

Pediatric Rheumatology
The Division of Pediatric Rheumatology in the Department of
Pediatrics at Duke
University Medical
Center and Duke
Children’s Hospital is seeking a pediatric rheumatologist to join an academic
group of three full-time pediatric rheumatologists. The position is flexible in terms of clinical/ research balance, and
both clinician-educators and clinician-investigators are encouraged to
apply. Applicants who have a combined
interest such as Medicine/Pediatrics or Allergy/Immunology/Rheumatology are
also encouraged to apply. Academic rank
and compensation will be commensurate with experience. Applicants must be either board-eligible or
board-certified in pediatric rheumatology.
The Division has a well-established
clinical research program and benefits from a robust research environment,
including the Duke Clinical Research Institute and the Duke Translational
Medicine Institute. In addition, the
Division has an active fellowship program and a strong relationship with the
Division of Rheumatology in the Department of Medicine. Clinical activity is facilitated by two nurse
clinical specialists; two clinical research assistants; an infusion suite;
dedicated joint injection time with anesthesia; social work, physical therapy,
and occupational therapy support; and a state-of-the-art ambulatory
facility.

Clinical Child Psychologist

applications for a full-time position in the Division of Child Development and
Behavioral Health. Applicants must be at
the doctoral level with a strong background and career interest in autistic
spectrum and neurodevelopmental disorders. Ability to conduct psychological assessments of youth (preschoolers through
adolescents) with autistic spectrum disorders, ADHD, and learning disorders is
required. Experience with nonverbal
cognitive assessments is desired. Ability
to provide parent training and evidence-based behavioral treatment for youth
with autistic spectrum and related disorders is highly desirable. The position may involve supervision of
pre-doctoral psychology interns and training of pediatric medical residents during
their Behavior and Development rotation. Independent or collaborative clinical research opportunities exist and are
encouraged. The practice location is a community-based
clinic adjacent to Duke
University Hospital,
staffed by child psychiatrists, developmental-behavioral pediatricians, child
psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, licensed clinical addictions
specialists, and trainees. We serve a culturally diverse population of youth
with developmental, behavioral, psychiatric and medical problems. Applicants must be licensed or
license-eligible in North Carolina. Minority candidates are strongly urged to
